The Wardley Biogas Facility is a state-of-the-art anaerobic digestion (AD) plant operated by Organic Waste Solutions, providing a sustainable solution for the treatment of food and organic waste across the North East.

Located at Wardley Disposal Point, West Boldon, the facility is the only operational biogas plant in the North East of England, playing a vital role in the region’s transition to a circular economy and low-carbon energy.

A truly state-of-the-art facility

Built on a 2.5-hectare site and fully permitted by the Environment Agency, the Wardley facility has been designed and engineered to meet the highest environmental and operational standards.

All waste reception, storage and processing takes place in fully enclosed buildings, ensuring minimal environmental impact and maximum operational control.

The facility uses a multi-stage anaerobic digestion process, including:
